I already have some experience with storage, compute and networking and preparing to take the exam. Going through the first few chapters, I noticed several mistakes in both the questions as well as the text.Some examples:Defining API Gateway as a tool "too generate custom client SDKS" and not able to be an origin for a CloudFront distribution.Inconsistent explanation of what happens to an EC2 instance when it is rebooted vs stopped and started (ie, IP address allocation)Mixing up the storage capacities and types of Compute Dense and Storage Dense Redshift nodes.These errors were both in the text and the review questions, so I can't chalk it up to a typo or copy/paste mistake.Some review questions also go way too far into the details, for example expecting the reader to remember the different page sizes from the various database vendors to understand the expected costs. One could argue that it's important to know that page size plays a role, but you will never see a question like "Exactly how many IOPs does MariaDB require to support 200MB/sec of transfer?" on a real exam.Outside of the technical details, the authors also express some opinions that don't really make a lot of sense or raise concerns without addressing them. In one case, they suggest "it would be irresponsible to rely on your S3 buckets as the only copies of important data. [...] it's not unthinkable to suggest that AWS could one day go out of business (like) Blockbuster". In another section, they suggest that one should re-issue security credentials if the PUBLIC version is "leaked".Comparing to the previous book, which was written by 5 actual AWS Solutions Architects and SA Managers, some of whom authored real exam questions, the two authors have between them an Associate and Cloud Practitioner certification, which is targeted for non-technical IT roles (finance, management, and sales).A friend of mine lent me the previous version of the book, and I found myself reading both books a chapter at a time, and then trying to determine if the inconsistencies were due to updates from AWS in the meantime, or if the new book was simply incorrect.As others have mentioned, the online resources don't work, which is supposed to include 2 practice exams. After receiving an activation code via email, the website just spits out an error saying it is invalid.I would recommend either a) buying the previous version and brushing up on what has changed since, b) using an online training that is regularly updated such as acloud.guru, or c) checking out a guide written by someone with more expertise, such as https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Solutions-Architect-Associate-SAA-C01-dp-1260108279/dp/1260108279/ which is written by an AWS SA and has received good reviews.
The book itself seems to be good but online available test exams, that are essential part of exam preparation are still not available. The PIN number that will be sent per email during registration will be not recognized and you see only meaningless error messages. It would be great if authors or publisher or someone else would finally take care of that.
